Launched first in Japan in 1997 by Media Factory and the United States by Wizards of the Coast from 1999, now has 34 expansions, each with new cards and always with new attacks and Pokémon types. The TCG of Pokémon and relatively easy to learn compared to other card games such as Magic and Duel Masters. Two players compete against each other, each with a deck of 60 cards, trying to defeat the opponent first. There are three types of cards: those of Pokémon and their developments, used to attack and try to knockout the opponent's Pokémon; the letters Energy, which permit the attack of a Pokémon according to their type, and Coach of the cards, letters, which produce some effect in the game and help the strategy of the player. To defeat the opponent, you must get all six awards, letters chosen at random and obtained for each Pokémon knocked out opponent, using all three types of card and a coin, which defines often done if an attack is successful or not.

There are four types of Pokémon Trading Cards: basic, which can be put into play without problems; Pokémon of stage 1, which can only come into play if the development of a basic Pokémon already at stake; Pokémon of stage 2, which can only come into game if the evolution of a Pokémon of stage 1 already at stake, and Baby Pokémon, used as pre-evolution of a Pokémon with some basic and special effects in battle. Each and every one of these types of Pokémon has "health points " (HP), which are lowered for each attack the opponent. If the points of life of a Pokémon reach zero, he is considered knocked out and is removed from the game, allowing opponents to grab one of the prizes remaining on the table.

For a Pokémon attack, it is necessary to "equip it" with an Energy Charter. When a Pokémon is an attack for which it is necessary number of energy and the type of energy provided it is equal to the constant in the letter, the Pokémon can attack and cause harm to the opponent. Some attacks have an effect that goes beyond the damage. They are the status paralysis, Poisoned, burning and numb. As for the effect by sleep paralysis and the Pokémon is unable to attack until losing that status. The effects of poisoning and burns are the loss of number of Points of Life of Pokémon with this status. Besides the status, there are two effects that are not attacks that may confuse the opponent. These effects have the name of Poke-Poke-Body and Power. Poke-Body acts in Pokémon passively, like search for other cards in the deck, improve his defense, among others, and Poke-Power acts as a Optimizer letter of the attack.

There are many trading cards championships. The expansions are also divided by generations, as in the games. The First Generation was in seven expansions, very basic, since they were the first of the game. The second generation added nine expansions, introducing new styles of Pokémon Unown and the focus, the Pokémon Letter. The Third Generation, commonly called Generation EX, 16 expansions and has made a kind of Pokémon Pokémon called EX, stronger than normal, but when defeated permit the purchase of two prizes at once by the opponent. The Generation EX also wore the accessory functions of the e-Reader, which read cards with bar codes in special Game Boy Advance, but those codes were removed after a few expansions of the letters. The fourth and current generation has, so far, two expansions, the Pokémon that appear in Pokémon Diamond & Pearl, and withdrew the Pokémon EX, being replaced by Pokémon level X, which may be put at stake on top of a letter of the same species the level of Pokémon X. These are a type of Pokémon letter improved and can be regarded as different Pokémon EX.

Trading Figure Game

The Trading Figure Game was created in Australia in 2006, bringing a series of pictures of Pokémon collectibles that are similar to an RPG board, but also uses elements of the Trading Card Game. The game is to traverse a board without being knocked out and reach the final point, beating the opponent. The game, made for two players, is divided into shifts, where the Pokémon can attack your opponent until they stop turning your figure. If stop at the right place, the attack is successful and the opponent receives damage, but if they do not stop there, the attack is canceled.

As the Trading Card Game, the Trading Figure Game also features the letters of coaches, which are used to improve the situation of Pokémon in battle. The Trading Figure Game also features miniatures of real coaches who come to games of the series and its actions can change the course of departure. Currently, there is an expansion of the series called Pokémon Trading Figure Game: Next Quest and its launch was on August 15, 2007 in America. Both the TCG as the TFG of Pokémon are administered by the division of The Pokémon Company, called the Pokémon Organized Play, which manages almost all the tournaments across America.
